John Floyd


John Floyd has been a trial lawyer since 1990, trying 67 jury trials (business/professional negligence) to verdict. In addition, he has tried numerous cases before State regulatory boards and judges throughout Tennessee. He is certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and as a Specialist in Medical Malpractice by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. His practice focuses on business and corporate litigation and the representation of professionals in negligence cases throughout Tennessee and northern Mississippi. Mr. Floyd has represented clients in various types of business and personal injury cases, including wrongful death claims and cases involving the Lanham Act, civil conspiracy, intellectual property, partnership dissolution, products liability and derivative shareholder actions. Furthermore, Mr. Floyd has represented clients in legal matters involving off-label use of drug devices and pharmaceuticals, and Medicare and Medicaid billing/reimbursement issues. He also has experience in fidelity law, directors and officers’ liability and contract law. A significant part of his practice includes representation of health care professionals before state health boards and administrative agencies. Although the majority of his practice is in Tennessee, Mr. Floyd frequently represents clients nationwide in a variety of civil cases.

Mr. Floyd has authored publications for several national companies and health care entities addressing legal issues and developments in various areas of civil trial practice. He has lectured to practicing attorneys and health care professionals on various subjects including medical malpractice, emergency room standards, chiropractic and podiatric malpractice, managed care and claims avoidance.

Mr. Floyd received his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, from the University of Tennessee in 1987. He subsequently received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1990 from the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he was a member of the National Trial Team. He is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations, the Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association, and the Defense Research Institute, where he is a member of the Medical Professional Liability Committee and serves as the State’s Liaison. Mr. Floyd is also a member of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel which is composed of leaders in the legal community who are committed to promoting knowledge, fellowship and professionalism in the justice system. Mr. Floyd has received several honorary distinctions in his career including nomination and recognition in the national publications of Mid-South Super Lawyers 2007-2013, which recognizes attorneys that have achieved substantial success in their career. He has also received the highest attorney rating (AV) from Martindale-Hubbell which is “a testament to the fact that lawyer’s peers rank him at the highest level of professional excellence.”

Mr. Floyd is admitted to practice before all State Trial and Appellate Courts, the United States Supreme Court, United States District Court for the Middle, Eastern and Western Districts of Tennessee, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of Tennessee.
